The Kalahari is not a true desert. It has relatively low rainfall but is quite densely covered with vegetation and grass, shrubs and trees occur in great variety. The Kalahari gives you the true feeling of Africa with vast open spaces and beautiful clear nights - ideal for viewing the magnificent southern hemisphere constellations.

There are numerous desert species here that have made unique adaptations due to the lack of water in the area. It is a fascinating place, with potentially many new discoveries and experiences that you will not be able to have anywhere else.

There are designated campsites, but no facilities what so ever. All water has to be carried in so don't expect to stand under a shower at the end of the day! Conditions can be extremely hot especially in the summer months. It cools down at night and temperature variations can be sometimes as much as 30 degrees Celsius.

This safari combines one night stay in a game lodge, one night stay in a tented camp on the Boteti dry river and two nights camping in the Central Kalahari. The lodge is set on the western border of the Central Kalahari and is on a game farm. At the lodge you will have a chance to meet the local Kalahari Bushmen who will take you on food gathering walks. There are very few people left who are skilled in these traditions. You also have an option of a horse ride on the farm.
